Major General (Retired) Laura McHugh concluded an extraordinary 39-year career with the United States Army in October 2025 at Ft. Indiantown Gap, Annville. She began her service in 1986 with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and went on to hold a wide range of senior leadership roles marked by her dedication to Soldiers, readiness, and service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
During her career, she commanded the 131st Transportation Company, deploying to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and later served as Recruiting and Retention Battalion Commander, Commander of the 213th Regional Support Group, Chief of Staff of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, and Deputy Adjutant General.
A lifelong learner, Laura earned degrees from King’s College, Duquesne University, and the U.S. Army War College, and completed executive education at Harvard University. Her many honors include two Legions of Merit and the Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal.
She now resides in Pine Grove with her husband Daniel, also a retired Guardsman, and enjoys time with their children and grandchildren.
